It's hard to fathom what lead someone to abandon a litter of kittens at a trailhead in southwestern Virginia. There's no mistaking that they were left on purpose. They didn't wander off from their mom or were born to a community cat living at the trailhead. A hiker stumbled upon the litter under a picnic table - the kittens were huddled in a litter box, sitting next to another litter box filled with dry food. Someone drove them out of town and left them all alone.
He took the kittens home, put them in an extra room, but he wasn't in a position to keep them. The local shelter gave him our Trails UP team's contact info because the shelter couldn't help.
We're hoping to bring them to Homeward Trails this week, but these kittens will need full vetting when they arrive. Who knows how many parasites their little bodies are battling after their ordeal. Please help us get them healthy and ready to find families who will never abandon them.
