Together, We Can Build Homes—and Hope

In 2020, four people—a seasoned social worker, a young graduate student, a woman experiencing housing instability, and a parent watching their daughter struggle to find a home—came together with a shared conviction: the affordable housing crisis cannot be solved unless we approach “affordable housing” differently. From that belief, Gleanings Housing was born.

At the time, over 8,000 low-income households in Lexington were struggling to pay rent as housing costs continued to rise. Too often, housing is treated as a commodity, leaving those most in need to slip through the cracks. Gleanings Housing was founded to change that—by building a community of people dedicated to developing and sustaining truly affordable homes where individuals and families can thrive.

Our work is guided by simple but powerful values:

Our Progress So Far

Since 2020, Gleanings has taken tangible steps to bring this vision to life:

🏠 The Legacy Home — Our first property, now home to five single women over fifty, provides safe, sustainable rental housing and a supportive community.
🏗️ Magoffin Street Triplex (Completed October 2024) — Featuring two one-bedroom units and one three-bedroom unit, this project demonstrates what’s possible when volunteers, professionals, and community partners come together.
🔨 Florence Avenue Duplex (Under Construction) — Our newest project, set for completion in June 2026, will provide two more affordable homes for individuals and families most in need.

We are proud that 70% of our tenants were previously unhoused and that tenants pay only 30% of their incometoward rent and utilities. On average, our residents stay for three years—enough time to stabilize, rebuild, and begin to thrive again.

To complete our newest duplex by June, we need the support of people like you—neighbors who believe that everyone deserves a safe place to call home. Your donation, volunteer time, or in-kind contribution will directly help us purchase materials, pay local contractors, and keep rent affordable for our tenants.
