Bluegrass Greensource

For more than 20 years, Bluegrass Greensource has been inspiring Central Kentuckians to care for the places we call home. What began as a small effort to teach kids about recycling has grown into a regional leader for environmental education and sustainability.

Every year, we reach thousands of students, businesses, and community members with hands-on programs that make a real difference—from teaching children how clean water begins in their backyard to helping neighborhoods reduce waste and protect local streams.

How You Can Help

The environmental challenges facing Central Kentucky are real, from litter and polluted waterways to the strain on our natural resources. When faced with such a big task, it's easy to wonder whether individual actions can truly make a difference.

At our heart, we believe small actions create big change. Whether it’s a classroom lesson, a community cleanup, or a corporate sustainability initiative, we’re empowering people across the Bluegrass to build cleaner, greener, and more connected communities—today and for generations to come.

This Bluegrass Gives Day, you can help us continue that impact. Whether it's supporting environmental education, community cleanups, volunteer opportunities, or sustainability programs, every gift helps create a cleaner, healthier future for Central Kentucky.

Who We Are

Founded in 2001, Bluegrass Greensource works in 20 Central Kentucky counties to provide the resources people need to become more sustainable in their daily lives. We do this in three ways: by providing lessons directly to preK-12th grade students and training opportunities for their teachers; by providing workshops and other informal education to adults on such topics as rain gardens and water quality, home energy efficiency, and recycling and waste reduction; and by providing technical assistance to businesses and community organizations that seek to green their operations. This outreach results in more than 100,000 annual engagements throughout our 20-county service area.
