LHS is Central Kentucky's largest pet adoption agency adopting nearly 5,000 animals each year; we provide 3,700 free and low-cost spay/neuter surgeries to animals in the community; and we educate over 2,000 individuals through our camps, school outreach, and shelter tours every year. On average, we care for over 300 homeless animals every single day, we have an exceptional save rate of 98% for animals in our care, and our concentrated efforts have reduced the Lexington homeless pet population by 44% in the past 7 years.
Time is a valuable gift to offer the Lexington Humane Society (LHS) and the animals we serve. Volunteers are very important to LHS! As a nonprofit organization we rely on our volunteers to help us successfully fundraise and provide animal enrichment. Volunteer opportunities for adults include, but are not limited to, the following:
Pet partnering
Foster care
Special event preparation
Fundraising
Grounds work
Humane education
Teen volunteer mentors
Office mates

You can do your part for LHS by donating an item from our Wish List. Our furry friends rely on the compassion and generosity of you, the community, and we couldn't continue our mission without your support. As the largest adoption agency in Central KY we rely on the kindness of the community to support us in our efforts to provide love and care to abandoned animals.
