Surgery on Sunday, Inc.
Surgery on Sunday is a not-for-profit organization that provides essential outpatient surgeries to income-eligible, uninsured or under-insured individuals who do not qualify for federal or state assistance. Even with the implementation of the Affordable Care Act, many people are still not able to procure health insurance. Some who do have deductibles so high that they are unable to take advantage of their policy's benefits. We exist to provide surgical care for these members of our community.

To qualify for services, an individual must live within a 250-mile radius of Lexington, Kentucky. This is in order to ensure a patient receives appropriate post-operative care. Occasionally, our medical review committee will consider requests outside of our regular service area but this is on a very limited basis.
The average outpatient surgery costs $10-15,000. By providing outpatient procedures at an average cost of $1,500, we are able to care for many patients in need and reduce the burden on local hospitals and emergency rooms. Our main goal when caring for patients is to rid them of disease and pain without a financial burden, often returning them to paying jobs and productive lives. If not for our program, many of these individuals would suffer for years or attempt to receive care at an emergency room, possibly resulting in a large hospital bill they are unable to pay.
