Kentucky Cystic Fibrosis Services (KCFS) provides financial assistance to cystic fibrosis (CF) patients who receive care at the University of Kentucky CF Clinic in Lexington, Kentucky. Even with health insurance, many individuals with CF face thousands of dollars each year in out-of-pocket medical expenses.

Why Support Is Needed

Many families served by KCFS have more than one child with CF, which can significantly increase the cost of care. Adult patients may also find it difficult to maintain full-time employment because of frequent clinic visits and hospitalizations, which often last up to two weeks.

Types of Assistance Provided

• Financial help with doctor, prescription, and hospital co-pays.
• An emergency fund, available once per year per family, for patients who remain compliant with treatments and clinic appointments.
• A small college stipend for CF patients attending college who follow the treatment plan established by the UK CF Clinic.
