The LASC is a dynamic organization that motivates and facilitates hands-on learning in the arts and sciences for people of all ages. We accomplish this through over 400 annual creative and inspiring classes, interactive art and science field trip programs for over 10,000 Kentucky students, and family and community programs that are taught by artists, education professionals, and experts in their field. Numerous galleries present an exciting array of interactive art and science exhibitions. We serve thousands of students yearly with free art and science after-school programs including our award-winning, Science Explorers, program in five Title I schools. The LASC also offers FREE and low-cost cultural and educational opportunities like our annual Day of the Dead Festival, Family Fun Day, and our new Aerospace Day, as well as monthly Discovery Nights with guest artists and scientists. The LASC's 1.5 lively acres includes butterfly and rain gardens, a waterfall and stream utilizing collected rain water, and a changing variety of art installations to explore. If you can't come to the LASC, we travel to over 25 Kentucky counties with WOW: Wonders on Wheels, a mobile planetarium and nine other interactive art and science programs for all ages.
The Living Arts & Science Center would not be able to provide this vast offering of educational programming without the generosity of our stellar volunteers, interns and board members. We have multiple volunteer opportunities in every area from marketing, administrative and event support, to teaching assistants, feeding our resident animals, gardening and grounds care. The LASC has ongoing needs for office and paper supplies, office furniture, art supplies, and a variety of services such as printing, vehicle maintenance, handy-person assistance, and more.
