Due to funding the local school system has reduced its arts education for students. Other than events at the Grand, Franklin County families must drive to Lexington or Louisville for most arts activities, limiting arts education to families with financial resources, time and commitment to the arts. To enrich arts opportunities for much of our population, the Grand offers live school matinees and public performance of theatre and dance, a summer series (typically 6) of Kentucky Arts Council Directory artists for day cares and families and two week-long theatre workshops at the Grand managed by the Lexington Children's Theatre. Additionally we offer a full season of live shows (usually 14 with other live shows added throughout the year), stream 10 live Met Opera performances each year, and we offer critically acclaimed films. In the summer we also offer a community-selected classic film series in addition to our children's programming. The Grand has regular art exhibits in the Grand Gallery, which are free and open to the public.

The Grand partners with the Stewart Home School, a nationally prominent residential school for students of all ages who are intellectually disabled, to provide events that its students attend. The Grand also partners with the Kings Center, which is a community center for at-risk youth, young adults and their families, all of whom live below poverty level and receive free and discounted tickets for our shows.
The Grand is a unique performing arts center in that its management and staff are almost exclusively volunteers. As a result, we are constantly looking for new volunteers to do all aspects of theatre operations: ticket office, ushering, tech crews, writing, fundraising and all other aspects. Contact, tell us your interest and we will get you in touch with the proper Grand Theatre contact.
