Family Services Association of Boyle County

In June of 1916, the doors of an innovative new social service agency opened in Danville for the first time. A group of public-minded community leaders came together with a simple goal of providing financial assistance to poor and needy families. No gimmicks, no catchy social service phrases.  They just wanted to help “the least of these”.  During the following one hundred years of uninterrupted service, to Boyle County, FSA's objectives and methodologies may have changed, but its commitment to its mission has remained constant.

Over the years FSA has provided leadership in developing other needed services as well. As the front-line fighters for those who are effected by poverty, we are uniquely positioned as liaisons between what our clients need and what our community has to offer.  So, in collaboration with community leaders, FSA helped to found, expand, or elaborate on a number of agencies including the local chapter of the American Red Cross, the Boyle County Senior Citizens, the Boyle County Health Department, Bluegrass Domestic Violence, the United Way and more recent programs like the Gladys Project.  We are working on a Homelessness Initiative as we speak!

Four traits have always characterized FSA: innovative programs, collaboration with others in the community, fiscal responsibility, and an abiding dedication to families. The vision of a handful of leaders in 1916 has impacted thousands of lives during Family Service's 100 years. Today the programs of FSA continues to help coordinate the changing role of the community in assisting children, seniors, and families to deal effectively with their problems and challenges.
